The vertebral column consists of individual bones – the vertebrae.
The vertebra, like any bone in the body, can break. Most often, these fractures occur in the lower thoracic and lumbar spine.
(All women after 50 years old who diagnosed with compression fracture of the spine must have performed Densitometry for Osteoporosis.)
NEUROLOGICAL EXAMINATION include check up on the function of the spinal cord, nerve roots and peripheral nerves.
Minimally invasive methods
In the treatment of compression fractures, we widely apply Vertebroplasty and Kyphoplasty. Vertebro and Kyphoplasty – methods when special cement are being injected into the body of a broken vertebra. It is mainly used to reduce pain and increase the strength of the vertebral body. These methods are mainly applied to the elderly patients with osteoporosis.
Surgical treatment includes: decompression (removal of fragments that exert pressure on the nerves and spinal cord) and internal fixation using metal holders (implants). In our practice, we mainly use minimally invasive surgeries for the installation of implants.
Benefits of minimally invasive surgery:
- Small incisions reduce the incidence of infectious complications and minimize blood loss Low postoperative pain
- Minimal trauma to surrounding tissue
- 4-5 nights hospital stay
- Fast recovery with minimal rehabilitation, quick return to your usual lifestyle Better functional and cosmetic result
